Posted by howlPholveled in Articles, Google, apple, microsoft on October 6th, 2009
As we pointed out yesterday, more and more Americans are buying Macs, but going to the iSide doesn’t always mean you can leave Windows behind. Since 2006, every Mac that Apple sells has also had the ability to run Windows using Boot Camp.
However, for most users, the best way of using Windows on a Mac is using a virtualization program like VMWare Fusion, Parallels, or Virtual Box. These programs let you run Windows alongside Mac OS X all on the same machine. Read the rest of this entry »
10,000 Hotmail Passwords Leaked Online [Email]
Posted by orerfireced in Articles, microsoft on October 6th, 2009
According to tech news site Neowin, an anonymous user posted usernames and passwords for over 10,000 Windows Live Hotmail accounts to web site PasteBin, including accounts on email domains like @hotmail.com, @msn.com, and @live.com. Neowin verified that the accounts are genuine, and that most appear to be based in Europe. Ars Technica reports, more specifically, those leaked accounts include usernames in alphabetical order beginning with the letters “ar” to “bl”. Microsoft has confirmed the leak, so if you're a Live Hotmail user and you suspect you may have been affected, now's the time to change that password. For the rest of us—well, this may serve as a reminder that it might be a good time to do a password refresh, anyway.

We know you’ve all been asking yourselves: “how can I celebrate the launch of Windows 7?” Luckily Microsoft has an answer for you — party! — but there’s a catch: only few are chosen.
In order to be an official Launch Party host, you’ll have to apply, be reviewed, and hope to be approved. Please do not party if you are not approved by Microsoft.
In all seriousness, you are set up with some nice schwag if you become an official host, including a special Signature Edition copy of Windows 7 Ultimate. Read the rest of this entry »
Bing and Ping: Share Search Results on Facebook and Twitter
Posted by Gulisoferus in Search Engines, microsoft on September 3rd, 2009
Microsoft let everyone know about a forthcoming feature of their new search engine today. Bing and Ping, as they’ve lovingly dubbed it, will let you easily share search results with your friends on Facebook and Twitter as well as by email.
At least at first, the sharing tools will only be available for searches that invoke “Instant Answers.” The examples given were football scores and airline flights, with other time-sensitive data and scenarios like stock prices, movie times, weather results and more also invoking that type of search.
Underneath the Instant Answer results from your query will be a horizontal “sharing” bar with icons to send those results to friends on Facebook, Twitter, or via email. Read the rest of this entry »
Google Launches A Major Offensive Against Microsoft With “Going Google”
Microsoft and Google have seen their rivalry kicked up a notch in recent weeks. First, Google announced Chrome OS, the company’s first operating system. Then Microsoft announced the new version of Office with major cloud app support. Then Microsoft announced its deal to take over Yahoo’s search business. Starting today, Google is back on the offensive, with a major promotional campaign to get the word out about organizations switching to Google apps for their daily computing needs. Yahoo Got Binged

Today, Yahoo died as a search engine. If the deal with Microsoft is approved, what will replace it will be Bing, the search engine that Microsoft launched only two months ago. Within a few months time, Microsoft will go from owning 8 percent of the U.S. search market to 28 percent (comScore). That is still less than half of Google’s 65 percent, but it could give Microsoft a fighting chance in the search wars against Google. Read the rest of this entry »
